Rumour press show

Rumour PR, our lovely press girls, ramped up their press wooing efforts last week in the form of their first ever press show. Housed in the London Transport Museum, Mel and Ruth invited along their favourite press buddies for a sneak preview of new products from ourselves and their other esteemed clients. On show from Anorak were our new deckchairs, new beanbags and new mini kissing animals designs. The day was a rip roaring success and we’re pleased to say our products went down very well indeed.

Thanks girls.

Team Anorak pitches

Last week, we were lucky enough to reach the regional heats of The Pitch 2010. Five budding business were picked from thousands of applicants to pitch their ideas to three very scary judges with the hope of reaching the grand final. These were Doug Richard (from Dragons Den), Julie Meyer (big time entrepreneur) and Helen Stevenson (Chief Marketing Officer at Yell). So, after a few rehearsals and a few deep breaths, Laurie and Stuart hit the stage. Here’s photos and the live Twitter feed from the day.

The judges loved our brand, loved our products and gave some great feedback. But alas, we didn’t quite win, coming second on the day. Nonetheless, it was an amazing experience and we made some brilliant contacts along the way. Plus, there’s also a wild card round where the public can vote for one more finalist (hint hint). More on that to follow.

Topshop bandstand picnics

This June, Topshop will be hosting a series of picnics in city bandstands up and down the country. The events will be hosted by Jameela Jamil and Miquita Oliver with all profits being donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. Activity wise, the picnics promise a plethora of fun including festival face decoration, roller skating and some tip top musical entertainment from the likes of New Young Pony Club, Eliza Doolittle and Slow Club. Don’t forget the Jammy Dodgers folk.

Top Drawer Spring

Our first tradeshow of the year was Top Drawer at Earl’s Court, London. It was the first time we’ve ever exposed our new ropes and boats collection to trade and it was by far the biggest stand we’ve had to contend with. Suffice to say, we were pretty darn nervous. Thankfully, fortune decided to smile on Anorak and the new collection went down very well indeed. We picked up some great new stores, met some old friends and even managed to pick up the ‘Best Gift Product’ award for our new garden apron. Here’s some pics of what we got up to…

It’s getting cold in here…

If you think we’ve had a nippy January, check this out. A winter making machine called Sensorama we spotted over at designboom. It’s the brainchild of Polish design company Centrala and is basically a big wooden box that contains Poland’s hardest winter of the 20th Century that took place in 1979. People who poke their head in for a look around will encounter the temperature, the smell, the sound, the air humidity, the blue lips. Brrrrrrrr.

You gotta be in it to spin it to win it

We’re delighted to be featured as this week’s prize in Dorset Cereals Spin to Win competition. At the end of the week, five lucky Anorakers will be winning themselves a satchel, picnic blanket and toiletry bag of their choice. What are you waiting for? Spin spin spin!

What a prize!

The Screen on the Green – take two

Remember how last week we were bubbling up getting terribly jealous of anyone going to the Dulwich Screen on the Green? Well guess what? Now we’re the smug gang who got to lounge in the park watching Back to the Future on a balmy summer evening.

TSOTG team was kind enough to make a little extra space so we could lay out our picnic rugs and indulge in an evening of entertainment under the twilight sky. The combination of enormous inflatable cinema screen, beautiful surroundings and a cheeky cider (or two) had us totally enchanted as we celebrated our local park and re-lived a classic movie.  Thanks TSOTG!

Back in June Anorak was invited to the Hampton Court Palace Festival – a two week music event. We were the only retailer to be invited and had a jolly time flogging our wares and munching cucumber sandwiches amid the stunning historical grounds. Our rabbits, stags and robins seemed very much at home cavorting in the well-kept gardens.

We would like to thank Matthew at Mazury Decking who provided our decked stand for the duration of the event. To see their full range visit www.mazurydecking.com
